Transition metal-modification of carrageenan-silica hybrids by a sol–gel method

Abstract Transition metal (TM)-modification of silica matrices are found in numerous materials for diverse applications. In other related hybrid materials, one tries to explore properties that result from combining the network with organic moieties, such as covalent grafting polysaccharides onto amorphous nanosilicas. However, sol–gel routes modification TM have been less explored siliceous materials. The present study demonstrates effective (TM = Co 2+ , Ni Cu Zn ) a method uses precursor polysaccharide κ-carrageenan was modified covalently alkoxysilane linked. Structural analysis and characterization studies derived carrageenan-silica hybrids were undertaken, and, particular, effects ions on hybrids’ assessed. This work clearly indicates imposes changes morphological, optical, thermal compared unmodified analogs. Hence, practical applicability using described here is not limited presence guest ion but also provides tool changing host particles. Graphical
